While the media said on Wednesday Olmert would resign, the truth is that Kadima’s leadership would have to bear a heavy burden if Olmert aspired to another mandate.

Olmert announced he would leave his post when his successor to Kadima established a government as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The heavy burden is related to investigations under suspicion of corruption, when Olmert was working as Mayor of Jerusalem and later as Minister of Industry and Trade to the government of Ariel Sharon.

Judicial authorities said it was probable that Olmert had been accepting bribery from US businessman Morris Moshe Talansky for 15 years.

Olmert should answer for the destination of $150 billion, experts on the investigations said.

Kadima scheduled its own internal elections for September 17, which would be a very difficult part for Olmert in case he presented himself as a candidate in the elections, something that will not happen.

Internal Kadima Party sources mention Tipzi Livni, current Foreign Minister, as the best candidate to lead the organization.
