Inaugurating the research institute, Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said that studies have shown that the standard of mathematics education has gone down in the state. “The School of Mathematics has a great responsibility to improve the standards of research and studies in the subject in the state.”

It is after a gap of 25 years that the Kerala government is setting up a research institute. “In the next three years, the government will set up more research facilities to improve the state’s standing in the field of science and technology.”

The School of Mathematics, in its first phase, will conduct research activities at doctoral and post-doctoral levels, workshops in frontier areas of mathematics and will hold national and international conferences.

“This is the second institution in the country dedicated to research in mathematics. When the institute becomes fully operational, postgraduate courses and special courses will be offered at the centre,” said E.P. Yesodharan, KSCSTE’s executive vice-president.
