Baghdad : Unknown gunmen shot dead a high-ranking Iraqi Interior Ministry officer in his house in eastern Baghdad, a ministry source said on Wednesday.
“Col. Dhafir Ghanim, Inspector General in the Interior Ministry, was gunned down on Tuesday night when armed men stormed his house in the Ghadeer neighborhood,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Ghanim’s brother was also wounded by the attack, the source said.
The area where the incident took place is a Shiite dominated neighborhood which recently witnessed clashes between U.S.-backed Iraqi security forces and militiamen loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
