Iraq bomb blast kills 12

Baghdad : At least 12 people were killed Wednesday in a truck bomb explosion which targeted the house of a senior police officer in the eastern part of the capital, an interior ministry official said.

The explosive-laden truck was parked near the house of a deputy chief of police in the al-Sha’ab neighbourhood when it went off. Around 50 people were injured in the blast.

“According to the latest report, at least 12 people were killed and 50 wounded in the blast,” the official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

“The bomb exploded near the house of Brigadier Nadhem Taieh, deputy chief of police in the interior ministry,” he said.

Eight houses in the locality were damaged. Taieh was not in the house at the time of the attack, the official said.
