A police source told KUNA that a colonel in the Iraqi police was ambushed in the area of Zaiyona where the masked gunmen opened fire on him on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi special operations forces (ISOF) captured a suspected cell leader for the Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) in eastern Mosul on June 2, stated the Multi-National Force (MNF).

The ISOF conducted an operation to capture a suspected terrorist who is believed to serve as an improvised explosive device (IED) cell leader forthe AQI. The man is suspected of numerous vehicle-borne IED attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces, which killed Iraqi soldiers.

“The capture of this suspect will likely disrupt AQI intelligence operations in the area and diminish future attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces in Mosul,” said Colonel Bill Buckner, an MNF spokesman.
