Baghdad : UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has reaffirmed that his country will name an ambassador to Baghdad in the coming days.
In his statement to reporters after his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki Thursday, he said that a new headquarters for the embassy is to be agreed upon.
Sheikh Abdullah also conveyed greetings of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to the Iraqi government, and wishes of progress and success.
Sheikh Abdullah then handed an official invitation to Al-Maliki to visit the UAE from Sheikh Khalifa, pointing out that a date for the visit is to be set at a later time.
For his part, Al-Maliki said that his government was keen to establish better relations with the UAE at all levels, noting that Iraq did not waver in working to strengthen relations with its fellow Arab states.
He hoped that this visit would herald the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic, trade and investment fields, urging at the same time all UAE companies to work and invest in Iraq.
Sheikh Abdullah arrived in Iraq earlier Thursday, marking the first visit of a GCC high-profile official to Iraq since the fall of the former regime.
