Kathmandu : Nepali Congress and the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) Saturday reached an understanding regarding the formation of new government and election of the first president, local media reported.
According to a leading website, nepalnews.com report, in a discussion between the two parties held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s residence in Kathmandu Saturday, they agreed for two-third majority to unseat the president. However, the two parties agreed that a simple majority can change the prime minister.
Nepali Congress is likely to hold discussion with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)(CPN-M) leaders later Saturday, before the three major parties sit for a meeting Sunday morning.
NC and the CPN-UML further agreed to limit the term of first president for two years – within which the parties have to complete writing the new constitution for the country.
The CPN-UML has already held discussion with the CPN-M in an effort to end the current deadlock.
The parties have said they would find a solution of the current deadlock before June 11 when the third sitting of the Constituent Assembly will convene.
