The future of Lebanon is not only important for the Lebanese but for the entire region, Miliband told reporters following his meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri here on Sunday.

Britain believes that Lebanon’s stability is vital for the whole region and that the Doha Accord provided the ground for more progress towards stability in Lebanon and the region, he noted.

Concerning the dispute over the Sheba’a Farms between Lebanon and Israel, the British minister noted that substantive dialogue between the two countries would be conducive to regional stability.

Miliband said he planned to hold more talks with the Lebanese leaders on several issues including the future steps after the Doha Accord such as the government formation and the electoral law as well as security and economic issues.

He also reiterated support for the implementation of all provisions of the United Nations resolutions concerning Lebanon including the UN Security Council resolution 1701.

He arrived here earlier Sunday on a one-day official visit to Lebanon for talks with President Michel Suleiman, Berri, and Prime Minister-designate Fuad Al-Siniora.
