Russia: NATO should be Ancient History

Moscow : Internacional bodies like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) should be ancient history for mailing to meet world challenges, said Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin.

Today challenges impose necessary changes at global mechanisms that should be more flexible and effective, said Kudrin at the 12th International Economic Forum of St. Petersburg.

However, he added that in speaking of changes he excluded NATO, in his view, an institution he considers to be past history.

The Russian official also questioned efforts to make cosmetic changes to brace the role of bodies like the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

On recent votes for IMF intestine quotas, Kudrin called for urgent changes in the composition and correlation of forces within.

President Dmitri Medvedev said in his ardes that they used to accuse Russia of chaining the world to oil and gas while export taxes hindered fuel supply.

Then came the global mineral resource shortage and the world has witnessed the attitude of donor countries, plus the food shortage and tariff barriers that only benefit exporters.

For Medvedev the main question should be how can global terms interact with national and world interests and held the international economy grow.

The 12th International Economic Forum of St. Petersburg, to close Sunday, will also address Russia’s development strategy until 2020, drafted by ex president and now Primer Minister Vladimir Putin.
