Noida : The Noida police Monday said they were planning to make verification of domestic helps mandatory, two days after a servant allegedly drugged a family, resulting in the death of a woman, and ransacked their house.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida) R.K. Chaturvedi said: “We are planning to make servant verification mandatory in Noida. For that we have organised a meeting with the resident welfare associations (RWA), the federation of RWAs in additions to other social organisations. We have sought their support and cooperation in the servant verification campaign.”
The family of Ajay Maini, a 40-year-old industrialist, was found drugged at their Noida Sector 50 home Saturday morning and their domestic help Akash was missing. Maini’s wife Sandhya, 38, was declared dead when they were taken to hospital.
The couple’s 19-year-old son Rakshak, Sara, a three-year-old daughter of a relative, and cook Raju, and Ajay himself are recovering in hospital.
Akash alias Raj Kumar, their Nepali servant, is absconding.
Chaturvedi said: “We have sent a team to track Akash in Nepal. The team has gone to his native place at Nawalparsi in Nepal, close to Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district. Another team is trying to track him in certain parts of western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.”
The national capital region has seen an increase in the number of cases where domestic helps are the key suspects in the death of their employers.
Close on the heels of the Noida incident, a 58-year-old man was strangled to death allegedly by his domestic help and his accomplice in his east Delhi home Monday.
The body of Anil Sharma was found with a bedsheet around his neck and hands and legs tied when his 74-year-old mother Indira went to check on him in his room of their first floor flat in the Farsh Bazaar area around 1.30 a.m.
She said she saw their servant Shankar Thapa and his friend leaving the house at that time.
On June 6, two domestic helps allegedly looted Rs.2 million from the Pitampura house of their employer, while the family was away shopping.
