Jammu and Kashmir transporters call off strike

Srinagar : Transporters in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday called off their four-day-old strike following an agreement with the state government over the fare hike.

After negotiations between the Jammu and Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association and the state government, the transporters here agreed to call off their state-wide strike which had crippled normal life here.

The state’s Transport Minister Hakim Muhammad Yasin told reporters the government had agreed to a 14 percent hike in transport fares across the board.

Association chairman T.S. Wazir said the strike was called off following the agreement with the government.
