Lahore : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Thursday sacked its senior official Saleem Altaf on charges of leaking to the media the board’s confidential e-mail.
Altaf, who was the director of special projects, was accused of leaking PCB president Naseem Ashraf’s e-mail written to team manager Talat Ali. Ashraf had severely criticised the Pakistan team for their disastrous performance against India in the ongoing one-day cricket tri-series in Bangladesh.
Altaf, a Test player, was the director of cricket operations during the tenure of former PCB chief Shaharyar Khan. He was later demoted to director special projects after Ashraf took charge in late 2006.
An official of the Pakistan Board said Altaf has been dismissed with immediate effect.
The decision came on a day when some newspapers published the email. Ashraf, in the strongly worded e-mail lashed out at the Pakistan captain, coach and players for losing the one-dayer to India.
