Lucknow : A man jailed in Uttar Pradesh for attempted murder had a murder charge slapped against him Friday after a fellow prisoner he had attacked with a brick bled to death.
Officials at the Etawah district jail said that Ambika hit Upenda Sharma’s head with a brick.
“Before other inmates could stop him, Ambika had inflicted fatal injuries,” Additional Superintendent of Police Ranvir Singh told IANS on telephone.
Sharma had been charged with rape. One of his friends had provided information to the police that led to Ambika’s arrest. “It was because of Sharma’s role in his arrest that Ambika attacked him,” said Singh.
A fresh case of murder has now been filed against Ambika, Singh said.
