Roadside bomb kills 2 Afghan women

Kabul : A roadside bomb struck a civilian car in Afghanistan’s eastern Khost province let two persons both are women dead, police said Tuesday.

“Two women were killed and their male companion was injured as a mine planted by Taliban militants hit a civilian car in Yaqubi district of Khost province on Monday evening,” a senior police officer Mohammad Yaqub told Xinhua.

He blamed the incident on Taliban, adding the militants through remote control exploded the device to kill innocent Afghans and destabilize security in the area.

Taliban militants have not made comments.

In a related development, gun battle between militants and police in the neighboring Paktia province claimed the lives of 12 insurgents early Tuesday.

Spiraling violence and combat operations have claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people so far this year in Afghanistan.
