After increasing tensions since Friday, when a demonstration from the opposition alliance for Democracy reached that official headquarters, Prime Minister Samak Sundarajev stated Sunday he won’t cede to those who demand his resignation.

Samak will face Wednesday a debate in the Parliament to eliminate the threat of toppling his executive. “The administration is still stable and the country’s situation normal,” he noted.

The cabinet accepted talks on his executive slated for today and Tuesday, requested since February when Samak took power, while his only adversary in the legislature, the Democratic Party, expects to present a motion the following day against Samak and seven of his members.

Local observers point out that fissures are emerging in the governing coalition of six parties led by the People’s Power Party of Samak.

Chart Thai spokesman Sonthiya Sawasdee told The Nation newspaper that if the prime minister falls, he will propose that group’s leader Banhan Silapa-archa, to relieve Samak.
