Assad made the call while meeting with visiting Iceland Foreign Minister Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir, underlining Syria’s efforts in that regard, according to the official SANA news agency.

The president also reiterated Syria’s stance towards peace, based on implementing international resolutions that call for the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Arab lands in 1967 and restoring the Arab rights.

The two sides highlighted the importance of Arab-European dialogue to realize a better European understanding of the region’s problems and find suitable solutions to this end, SANA said.

Gisladottir told reporters after the meeting that the meeting was “productive and very good,” noting that the goal of her visit here is to witness the situation in the region since her country is nominated for membership in the UN Security Council in 2009-2010.
