Sofia : Bulgaria announced Sunday that it would work to assist France during its term of EU presidency, beginning July 1, and to counter obstacles facing the Lisbon Agreement from coming into effect.
This came in a statement by Bulgarian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin, following a meeting with French Ambassador in Sofia Etien Dao Pansen, who briefed the minister on priorities of the French EU presidency.
Kalfin noted that the French presidency would be beginning at an important time, expressing content that a country like France would maintain the fundamental values of the EU.
On his part, the French ambassador said the results of the referendum held in Ireland over the Lisbon Agreement, rejecting the document, would not hinder efforts of his country to work to strengthen the EU through the spirit of coordination and listening to each member ally.
The aim of the Lisbon Agreement is to ensure the protection of appellations of origin by the registration of the International Bureau of World Intellectual Property Organization.
