OIC Foreign Ministers will meet in Syria in 2009, and in Tajikistan in 2010 ahead of the Summit.

Ihsanoglu, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) summit in Sharm El-Sheikh Sunday, noted that Egypt will participate in the OIC troika in the next nine years.

The Secretary-General currently gives a great deal of attention to the African continent, particularly when taken into consideration that 26 African countries are members of the OIC.

In addition, OIC is keen on fighting poverty and diseases through various projects, including its fight to curb the cotton production crisis in the region. The OIC chief indicated that the organisation established in the OIC 2005 Summit, a private fund to fight poverty with a capital totaling USD 10 billion.

The OIC is working with the AU to ensure success to mediation in ending conflicts in the continent, Ihsanoglu added.
