Islamabad : Authorities recovered Monday bodies of eight kidnapped men in Pakistan’s Kurram tribal district bordering Afghanistan, a senior official said.
Officials of the local administration found the men, all shot dead, dumped on the outskirts of Mandori village, some 75 km south-east of the district’s main town of Parachinar.
“It is suspected that the eight fell prey to vigilantes who routinely abduct and execute suspected criminals in the tribal region,” said Atta-ur-Rehman, the deputy administrator of Kurram.
No group has claimed the responsibility for the killings.
Though such executions are not common in Kurram, the area is beset with sectarian violence that reached crisis proportions after deadly clashes erupted between minority Shiite and majority Sunni Muslim communities last year.
Hundreds of people have been killed in the sectarian strife, while thousands have fled to safer areas, including border villages in Afghanistan.
