Washington : The United States has urged Israel and Palestine to halt violence and resume peace talks.
This statement by the White House was issued Sunday shortly after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he would suspend peace talks with Israel over the latest Israeli military operations in Gaza.
“The violence needs to stop and the talks need to resume,” National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said in the statement.
The United States is hoping that peace negotiations between the two sides would advance in the final year of President George W. Bush in office.
