Vienna : The seasonal session of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors opened at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna on Monday.
The 35-nation Board of Governors will begin one-week session with a statement by the IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei in line with the agenda.
ElBaradei’s Iran report is one of the major topics to be discussed at the meeting.
North Korea nuclear activities, international radioactive cooperation, nuclear transportation and nuclear residue management are also on the agenda.
On February 22, ElBaradei verified the non-diversion of Iran peaceful nuclear program in his latest report to the agency’s Board of Governors.
He said in the 11-page report, “We have managed to clarify all the remaining outstanding issues, which are the scope and nature of Iran’s enrichment program.”
ElBaradei called on Iran to accept the Additional Protocol to Non-Proliferation Treaty to monitor Iranian nuclear program in future.
Iran said that it will accept that Additional Protocol upon return of Iranian file from the Security Council to the Vienna-based specialized agency.
Iran had accepted the Additional Protocol to NPT, but, suspended it upon Iran referral to the United Nations Security Council.
