Medvedev to Continue Putin Policy

Moscow : Presidential elections’ virtual winner in Russia Dmitri Medvedev assured on Monday he will continue the line imposed by his predecessor in the last eight years and will preserve an independent foreign policy.

In his first conference to the press after Sunday’s vote Medvedev said he will keep the course elected in his country in defense of national interests within allowed rules and mechanism.

He said that dealing with foreign policy priorities will take into account international right supremacy, above all.

He added that in that sense, relations with the Community of Independent States is still Moscow’s main objective that will be his first trip abroad as President.

Regarding Vladimir Putin’ legacy the acting first Vice president of the Executive emphasized that his government will be a direct continuity of what outgoing president has done.

Politologist Glev Pavlovski said that Medvedev is conscious that Putin influence will remain but is evident that he wants progress.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for May 7 when Putin will hand over the country’s control after two consecutive term of office, the cabinet ministers will be dismantled too.
