Seoul : US and South Korea started big joint military exercises Sunday for a week, regarded by Democratic Korea as a test to launch an aggression against this last nation.
Thousands of soldiers and technical media from both countries are participating in these annual military exercises, called Key Resolve and Foal Eagle by the combined military command.
US deployed several air squads to its military bases in South Korea to reinforce its presence in the area, and it is expected that strategic bombers coming from the island of Guam also take part.
US nuclear aircraft carrier US Nimitz arrived in the South Korean port of Pusan several days ago, with a crew of 6,000 soldiers and more than 100 fighter-bomber planes.
The US Nimitz is a ship of 93,000 tons, accompanied by a battle group of five ships, among which nuclear submarine Ohio and two modern Aegis destroyers are included.
The US Army keeps 28,000 soldiers in the south of the Korean Peninsula permanently.
Democratic Korean newspaper Minju Joson revealed Saturday that these exercises become more dangerous because of the participation of the unit Striker, which has been practicing a preventive attack against North Korea from 2003.
