Fuzhou (China) : A Chinese court Tuesday sentenced to death a former chief of a construction company for taking bribes.
The Nanping Intermediate People’s Court awarded the sentence, with a two-year reprieve, to Yue Shengli, former board chairman of Fujian Construction Engineering Company, for taking bribes while in office, a court release said Tuesday.
Wang served as head of the Fujian road administration bureau and board chairman of the construction company from 1996 to 2006.
During his tenure as chairman of the company, he had taken bribes worth 9.89 million yuan ($1.4 million), according to the court.
Wang had also served as deputy general manager of Fujian Highway Co. Ltd and deputy head of the provincial communications department before he was arrested in August 2006.
