New Delhi : To promote India as a medical tourism destination, the government has taken several steps, including issuing a new visa to foreign travellers coming to the country for medical treatment.
Informing this to the Rajya Sabha Tuesday, Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said to promote medical tourism in India, the government has showcased the country in overseas market through brochures, CDs, films and other publicity materials.
She said the government has also introduced a new category of ‘M’- visa for foreign tourists coming to India for medical treatment.
In a written reply, she said a task force has been set up to promote healthcare tourism in the country. It will be headed by the health and family welfare ministry secretary has been constituted, which has members from the health department, tourism and experts from the medical field.
