Iran-US to Resume Talks on Iraq

Tehran : A round of talks between the United States and Iran on security in Iraq will resume tomorrow in Baghdad, the head of the Iranian delegation announced Wednesday.

The Islamic Republic of Iran gives great importance to Iraq’s security, so we will use all its capacities in that regard”, the official said.

The announcement comes after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad held talks with Iraqi leaders earlier this week in a historic trip that was the first by an Iranian president to the country.

During his stay in Baghdad, Ahmadinejad reiterated his request to US troops to leave Iraq.

The United States and Iran have been holding talks on Iraq since 2007.

Thursday´s talks will be at the level of “experts”, the Iranian media reported.

The fourth round of talks will be in session despites Iran has held United States responsible for the new package of coercive measures approved at the UN Security Council regarding Iran nuclear development.

The Chief of the National Security Commission and Foreign Policy at the Parliament Ala Al Din Boruyerdi affirmed that Washington’s pressure led to the passage of the resolution against Iran, which he termed as worthless.

The United States intends to lower Iran´s importance in the region. Top US military officers claimed Teheran is still supplying the Shiite militia with powerful bombs.
