Winning parties of the February 18 elections were demanding summoning of the National Assembly to elect the new Prime Minister.

President Musharraf said on Saturday he will summon the National Assembly after the Prime Minister sends a summary for the session.

The Law Ministry sent a summary to the Prime Minister on Saturday for a request to the President to convene the Assembly’s session, Afzal Haider said.

“The Election Commission has informed us about the completion of the election process. So we sent today a summary to the Prime Minister to summon the Assembly session to administer the oath the members-elect,” Haider told the state-run television.

He said oath will also be administered to those women and minority members who have been elected on special seats.

The Minister said that the assembly will also elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the Assembly session.

He said the summary has reached the Prime Minister secretariat but the Prime Minister is in Karachi and Sunday is weekly holiday.

“The Prime Minister will receive the summary on Monday and he will dispatch the summary to the President and the President can summon the Assembly session any time after Monday,” Haider said.

Pakistan Peoples Party of the slain former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly in the February 18 elections.

The opposition PML-N party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced support to the PPP.

Co-Chairman of PPP Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif will meet on Sunday at an important meeting to discuss government formation and to sort out ‘differences’ over some issues.

The two leaders are expected to discuss the issue how to deal with President Musharraf after the new government is formed.

Sharif demands Musharraf’s resignation but Zardari is cool to the demand.

The PML-N leader also calls for restoration of all deposed judges who were sacked by President Musharraf on November 3rd when he imposed emergency.
