Admiral Gregory Smith, director of the Multi-National Force’s (MNF) Communications Division, told a news conference Sunday the Iraqi security forces have been taking more responsibilities.

He noted the progress achieved by the Iraqi air force, but stopped short to say that a lot more have to be done.

Around 125,000 soldiers were recruited by the army and police forces recently, said Smith, and added that volunteering fighters of the Al-Sawha (Awakening) councils exceeded 90,000.

The security improvement would help in pulling out one of the US brigades in the coming weeks.
