“I hope there will be close cooperation between the federal government and Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor and I will continue to discuss with the DAP, PKR and PAS leaderships to ensure that the ties are strengthened in the interest of national development,” he told reporters at his office, here today.

Anwar said the opposition coalition would also concentrate on efforts to convince foreign investors in the states concerned to accept the transition process favourably.

“The transition process is nothing unusual, and we will carry it out in a business-friendly environment, implement free-market policies to attract more foreign investment besides promoting transparency in business agreements, we will not compromise on corruption,” he said.

When asked about the existing projects initiated by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) state governments, Anwar said the coalition would respect the agreement but would review contracts if they were not awarded in a transparent manner.

“We have to respect the agreement, but if they posed hardship to the rakyat (people), it needs to be renegotiated to lessen the impact,” he added.
