Muslim organizations hold sit-in before Jharkhand Assembly

Ranchi: To press the government to solve problems confronting Muslims in the state, all Muslim organizations held a joint sit-in before the Jharkhand Assembly building on 12th March.

The organizations including Idarah Shariah and Imarat-e-Shariah issued a statement at the end of the dharna. The statement talked about several issues such as reservation, appointment of Urdu teachers and wakf board.

They demanded the government to provide reservation to Muslims in proportion to their population, as it has been granted in Karnataka. They also demanded the formation of Hajj Committee, Wakf Board, Madrasa Board, Minorities Financial Corporation, 15-Point Program Committee and Urdu Academy. They asked the government to provide 15% seats of B. Ed. colleges to Muslim community. Services of Urdu teachers must be restored and Urdu should be popularized in all government departments as second official language, they demanded.

Other organizations that participated in the sit-in include All India Milli Council, Jharkhand Qaumi Tehrik and Jharkhand Ulema Council.
