Bhubaneswar : Over 2,000 junior doctors working in state-run hospitals in Orissa Monday announced that they would strike work from Wednesday as the government was not addressing their demands.
The 2,156 doctors, members of the Orissa Medical Service Association, the leading organisation of doctors in the state, had submitted resignation notices to the government Feb 18.
“A delegation of the association met Chief Minister Naveen Pantaik Saturday night to apprise him of the problems they have been facing,” association president Madhu Mishra told IANS.
“We apprised him about the charter of 19 demands, including junior class one status for doctors at the entry level with a basic salary of Rs.12,000 and time-bound promotion,” he said.
“The chief minister refused to fulfil all our demands. That is why we have decided to cease work across the state from Wednesday as per our earlier announcement,” he said.
