An Israeli army spokesman said this attack was launched after the number of missile attacks aimed at Israel from south of Gaza have decreased in the past weeks.

Armed Palestinians launched this morning two missiles in addition to mortar shells at an agricultural village near Gaza which led to the destruction of a number of buildings, the spokesman added.

Islamic Jihad’s Quds Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack which it said came in response to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

According to the spokesman, Palestinians launched three missiles and five mortar shells from Gaza towards south Israel yesterday but no casualties or material damages were reported.

The Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said Israeli envoy to the United Nations Dan Gillerman said yesterday that the truce in Gaza these days is practically ineffective.

Gillerman accused Hamas of continuing its missile smuggling operations to Gaza and of taking advantage of the truce to produce further missiles. He expected the coming stage to witness “major” attacks.

Al-Aqsa brigades, the military wing of Fatah and the Abu Ali Mustafa brigades, the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, claimed joint responsibility for attacking Al-Majdel town with two missiles today.
