New Delhi : The Delhi government will conduct its own investigation into the death of Rinki Kaushik, the 15-year-old student of a private school in east Delhi who slipped into coma after a teacher beat her, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Thursday.
“The government will further investigate the death of the student. The accused teacher has already been suspended. The school has also been derecognised,” Dikshit told reporters here Thursday.
Rinki, a Class 10 student of the Dinkar Model National School in east Delhi, slipped into coma Jan 7 after teacher Dhirendra Kumar Dinkar allegedly beat her with a stick Nov 10 last year. She died Thursday.
Her family says Dinkar beat her after she refused to take private tuitions from him.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said, “The police are already investigating the matter. The government will ensure no such incidents take place in any schools – private or public – under the government purview.”
The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, sought Lovely’s resignation.
“The students are not safe in the city schools. Over 10 lakh (one million) teaching posts are lying vacant. Around 800,000 children do not get into schools. There are several scams, plaguing the education department. Hence the minister must go,” Delhi unit BJP chief Harshvardhan said.
The city government has announced Rs.100,000 as compensation to the girl’s family.
