Damascus : The foreign ministers of the Arab League Organization member countries opened debates at Ebla Cham Palace Hotel with a call to turn the Summit into a tribune of solidarity to boost joint Arab action.
Host Minister Walid Al-Mouallem said the goal of the meeting is to work for unity and hoped the Summit unfolds with frank and transparent talks that handle the members situation properly.
Al-Mouallem also hoped for a constructive environment to devise strategies to implement the Arab Peace Initiative, approved at the ALO 2002 Summit in Beirut.
It relies on a UN Security Council resolution set to find a just and fair solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict and it will neither be amended nor changed in Damascus, but the Arab countries will decide whether or not to implement it.
The Syrian Foreign Minister also called the Arab world to call Israel to stop building settlements that violate international resolutions and to end slaughtering our people at the Gaza Strip.
Al-Mouallem mentioned the US failure to pressures a boycott of the Summit through visits of Vice President Richard Cheney and Secretary of States Condolezza Rice to the area.
The Minister said that every Arab leader is welcome to the Summit and is entitled to contribute to its success because it makes every member a winner.
