London : Indian authorities have written to the London police asking about the DNA samples needed to check the claims of a Bihari couple that a Sikh boy found wandering in a London suburb is their son, an Indian diplomat said Friday.
The boy, Gurrinder Singh, who does not speak a word of English, wandered into a health centre in the neighbourhood of Southall last week, saying he had been dumped there by his ‘white uncle’.
Days after his photograph was splashed on newspapers, television channels and websites around the world, a couple from Bihar – Ganga Prasad and Bindia Devi – claimed Gurrinder is their son who disappeared three years ago, and have demanded a DNA test.
The case is now being coordinated by the Indian High Commission in London.
“The Bihar Director General of Police has been in touch with us, and we are writing to Metropolitan Police today (Friday) to ask them what nature of DNA sample they need in order to do the test,” said a spokeswoman for the Indian High Commission in London.
A spokesman for Metropolitan Police Yard would only say that the boy is still under the force’s protection, but an Indian diplomat said the focus of investigation will be to “try and find out the veracity and authenticity of the claim [of parenthood]”.
