Iran planning to register Imam Reza shrine with UNESCO

Mashhad : Iran has made planning to register Imam Reza (AS) shrine with UNESCO, Iran’s chief of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization said on Sunday.

ICHHTO chief Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei said that the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) is highly eligible for the World Registration.

Imam Reza (AS) is the eighth Imam of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) infallible Household.

The Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) with several sacred affiliated places is not only a shrine to pay pilgrimage but a valuable, national and spiritual heritage for the Muslims around the world, he said.

He called for close relations between the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and ICHHTO, saying that registering of the shrine with UNESCO needs planning and also closer cooperation between both governmental and private sectors.

“Such an interaction is now available,” he added.

He said that national registration of the Holy Shrine has been well done adding that, however, it deserves to World Registration due to be a sacred place with an exquisite architecture.
