Council of advisers approves signing of MoU with Oman on manpower export

Dhaka : The Council of Advisers at a meeting here approved a proposal of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman on export of skilled manpower from Bangladesh to that country.

Foreign Adviser Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury will visit Oman on May 10 when the MoU is expected to be signed there. At present, 1, 75,000 Bangladeshis are working in Oman.

A total of 11,500 Bangladeshi workers were sent to Oman during the first three months of the current year.

Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed chaired the meeting held at his office here on Wednesday, attended by the Advisers and Special Assistants to the Chief Adviser.

After the meeting, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim told reporters that the Council of Advisers had also approved the Government Attorney Services Ordinance-2008 with a view to establishing a permanent attorney service in the country.

Besides, the meeting approved amendment of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) Act-1980 with a view to ensuring accountability in medical profession and regulating various aspects in the country’s healthcare system.

Approval was also given in the meeting on the Contempt of Court Ordinance-2008 keeping a provision of necessary punishment, the Press Secretary said.

During the meeting, the Council of Advisers was apprised about the cyclone `Nargis’ created in the Bay of Bengal and a presentation was made on it by the Defense Secretary with the assistance of Meteorological Department.

The Chief Adviser asked all concerned including the Deputy Commissioners to monitor the cyclone closely and aware all, so that necessary measures could be taken on a short notice.

The meeting also discussed price of MS rod, report of the enquiry committee on it and steps to improve power supply situation in the country.
