Taipei, Taiwan : Taiwan’s government says two senior officials have resigned over the loss of millions of dollars (euros) in a failed attempt to lure Papua New Guinea to switch relations from China, the Associated Press reported.
The government says Foreign Minister James Huang and Deputy Premier Chiou I-jen are leaving their posts.
The resignations Tuesday follow revelations last week that Taiwan lost US$29.8 million (¤19.2 million) in a failed 2006 attempt to establish ties with Papua New Guinea.
