Jakarta, Indonesia : A radio report says at least 12 gold miners were killed in a landslide in Indonesia’s remote Papua province. Nine others are missing and feared dead, the Associated Press reported.
El-Shinta radio said Tuesday the slide hit their mining camp near the southern port town of Timika, more than 3,200 kilometers (2,000 miles) from Jakarta, following heavy seasonal rain.
Landslides kill dozens of people every year in Indonesia, a vast tropical archipelago spanning more than 17,000 islands along the equator.
