A police man and two civilians were killed in a suicide attack on a police check post in the city of Bannu in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), an army statement said.

The suicide bomber who was riding on a cycle rickshaw blew himself up when stopped by a policeman at a check post at 8:50 a.m.(0350 GMT), said the statement.

Nine other people, including five policemen, were injured in the early morning attack, the statement said. The injured have been shifted to a local military hospital for treatment.

In another attack, unidentified gunmen shot dead tow policemen at the troubled Swat valley in NWFP, the News Network International news agency reported. Shopkeepers closed bazaars at Matta, a major town in Swat, after the attack.

No group claimed responsibility of both attacks.

Attacks on security forces are carried out again after the Pakistani Taliban suspended peace talks with the government. It is the second attack on security forces in the northwest in two days following the end of peace talks and ceasefire by the Taliban.

A soldier was injured when Taliban militants attacked an army patrolling team in South Waziristan tribal region on Monday.

An umbrella militant group, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), on Saturday stopped further talks with the jirga of tribal elders, claiming that the federal and the NWFP government was not sincere in peace talks.

They said the government’s refusal to withdraw troops from the tribal areas was the main reason for the suspension of the peace talks.
