Suicide blast kills 12 police, civilians in W Afghanistan

Kabul : A suicide blast killed five policemen and seven civilians in western Afghan province of Farah Thursday, an interior ministry spokesman said.

Twenty others including policemen were also injured in the explosion which occurred in Dularam district of Farah at 9:30 local time, Zamarai Bashari, Afghan interior ministry spokesman told Xinhua.

“The bomber wearing a waistcoat full of explosives blew himself up,” Bashari added.

Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, who claimed to speak for the Taliban outfit, took the responsibility and added 12 policemen were killed in the blast.

The Taliban, fighting Afghan and international troops since being ousted from power in 2001, has vowed to intensify their guerrilla-style attacks this year.
