Jakarta : The government should give more serious supports to the independence of Palestine, according to Amien Rais, former chairman of the Indonesian People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR).
“Let`s together push the government to seriously support the independence of Palestine,” Amien Rais said here when speaking at an international conference on “Freedom and Right of Return: Palestine and 60 Years of Ethnic Cleansing”.
Amien Rais said that the Palestinian problem was closely related to the politics in the US.
“John MacCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are all the same, there is no difference among them. The main point is that they guarantee the security for Israel,” he said.
The US policy did not change from year to year. This can be seen from the condition of Palestinians who are badly suffering due to the Zionist policies being supported by the US, he said.
He said that the Palestinian problem was also the question of Muslims. Therefore, the Muslims must fully support the independence of Palestine, he said.
The international conference was organized by the Voice of Palestine – the Indonesian Society for Palestine Freedom, in cooperation with the Center of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies of the University of Indonesia to mark the 60th anniversary of Nakba (catastrophe) in Palestine.
