Islamabad : The leader of Pakistani People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari predicted a solution to the controversy over judges’ restoration that has made the coalition government collapse.
Even when he called for reconciliation in a press conference Wednesday night, that position caused friction with the President of Pakistan Muslim League N (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif.
Both parties, the country’s main political forces, want to solve the problem of judges removed by President Pervez Musharraf through an unpopular measure last November, but differ in the way to do so.
The PML-N wanted to do it through executive order while PNP wanted through an amendment to the judges Law backed by the Parliament.
After removing the magistrates when he declared order of exception Musharraf appointed others, complicating the situation more.
In Zardari’s opinion if the judges are being restored by an executive order the current acting ones could issue an order to stay that will generate a constitutional crisis.
Zardari said that a resolution returning the magistrates to their posts will be presented in a joint session of the parliament..
One of the ideas in mind is to increase in number the Supreme Court from 17 to more than 25.
“Our team is preparing a bill and is looking for ways to solve the problem,” said Zardari.
The PPP leadership will meet Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani Thursday to analyze how to face the problem of the new PML-N ministers resignation.
