Gaza : Senior Palestinian officials said that Israel resumed on Sunday limited quantities of fuel shipments into the Gaza Strip and reopened Erez crossing for Palestinian patients who need treatment in Israel.
Ahmed Ali, chief of the petroleum corporation in the Hamas-ruled Gaza told reporters the Israeli army “resumed this morning shipment of limited quantities of fuels amid ambiguity on allowing more.”
He added that the Israeli army has only allowed three trucks, one filled with diesel, one with cooking gas and the other with industrial diesel for operating Gaza’s sole power plant.
“We are waiting for shipping more. We don’t know yet if Israel would allow more trucks of fuels and cooking gas or there will be no more fuel shipments today,” said Ali.
The Gaza Strip, which is under a strict Israeli blockade since Hamas took control of the region in June, has been suffering from a severe fuel crisis over the past four months.
Israel decided to send codified quantities of fuels into strip in response to daily homemade rocket attacks carried out by Gaza militants on southern Israeli towns and communities.
Meanwhile, Mujahid Salama, the Palestinian chief of energy of the Palestinian National Authority announced he will hold talks on Monday with senior Egyptian officials to study the possibility of shipping Egyptian fuels to Gaza.
“We are trying to seek ways to solve the fuel crisis in the Gaza Strip. We will ask the Egyptian side to supply the Gaza Strip with industrial diesel and with other kinds of fuel products,” said Salama.
