New Delhi : Over 97 percent of students from Gulf countries have passed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 examinations – faring much better than their Indian counterparts.
“Gulf students are consistently doing better. The numbers of schools, students and even the pass percentage in Class 10 are increasing in the region,” CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly told IANS here.
“A whopping 97.13 percentage of students in Gulf have passed this year as against 96.68 percent last year,” he added.
Overall, 87.08 percent students in India have qualified in the examinations.
This year, 10,327 students including 5,116 girls from 103 Gulf schools appeared for the exams.
These students from countries like the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain appeared for the exams in 37 centres in March.
“Of the total students, 709 students have scored 90 percent and above this year, compared to 659 last year,” Ganguly said.
He said like India, girls in the Gulf too have performed better than the boys. The pass percentage of girls is 98.22 percent while of boys it is 96.05 percent.
Over 765,000 students appeared for the Class 10 examination in India and abroad, and 87.08 percent cleared it. The pass percentage has increased by 2.64 percent from last year.
Of the six regions in India, Chennai topped with the highest pass percentage of 95.26, followed by Ajmer. Delhi was at fifth position.
