Mexico City : Fifty-eight people were killed Monday in incidents related to organised crime in different parts of Mexico, media reports said Tuesday.
Monday was the bloodiest day of the year in the country as 58 people died in incidents related to the notorious organised crime syndicate, the daily El Universal reported.
The newspaper has, since 2005, maintained a daily count of such violent deaths – there were 4,325 this year. On Sep 12, at least 41 people were killed in a single day.
On Monday, there were murders reported from eight Mexican states, with shootouts and grenade attacks in Sinaloa, Baja California, Guanajuato, Chihuahua, Michoacan, Sonora, Guerrero and the state of Mexico, the daily La Jornada reported.
The victims included eight police officers, including Sonora state police commander Juan Manuel Pavon Felix.
