Asia”s 3 big economies welcome Obama”s victory

Tokyo : Leaders of Japan, China, and South Korea on Wednesday congratulated Barack Obama on his victory in the US presidential election.

In Tokyo, Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso extended “heartfelt congratulations to Senator Obama on his election as US president.” Pointing out that the two countries share common values in many aspects, Aso vowed to work with the new American leader.

“I will strive to further strengthen the bilateral alliance and to resole various challenges the international community faces when addressing issues such as the international economy, terrorism, and the environment,” he noted.

In Beijing, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao sent congratulatory messages Wednesday to Obama, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

South Korea’s President Lee Myung-bak also sent a congratulatory message to Obama and expressed hope for further development of bilateral relations between South Korea and the US, the presidential office said in a statement carried by Yonhap News Agency.

“Obama’s election victory is a result of the American people’s support for new changes and hope,” said the statement.
