The FIR was lodged at Dantewada police station on the instruction of the district election officer S.P. Sori.

“We have taken a suo moto cognizance of a media report that Karma tried to bribe some voters. The FIR has been registered under Section 171(d) of the Indian Penal Code and section 123 (1) of the Representation of People Act,” Sori told IANS by phone.

Karma, a former minister, is Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing state assembly.

He is seeking re-election from Dantewada. If he wins, it will be a hat-trick from one of the most insurgency-hit seats of the state.
