Jammu : Polling was extended in some booths in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir Monday, the first of the seven-phase poll in the state, partly because many voters were still inside some booths at closing time, and partly because some electronic voting machines had malfunctioned.
Election Commission officials said polling had by and large been peaceful and over 60 percent of the voters in Poonch has exercised their franchise.
The polling was scheduled to end at 4 p.m.
