Arab committee on Darfur ends “positive” meeting in Sudan

Khartoum : Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Al-Mahmoud, chairing an Arab committee mediating between the Sudanese government and rebel movements in Darfur, has said that committee members held “positive” meetings with the relevant parties on the conflict in Darfur.

Al-Mahmoud, speaking to reporters at the airport before leaving here Sunday, said the committee would meet with all rebel movements in and outside Sudan to listen to their points of view on the conflict.

He hoped the conciliation conference between Khartoum and rebel movements would be held in due time in Doha.

Al-Mahmoud said the visit of the committee members to Sudan has achieved its objectives.

All officials the committee members have met voiced their desire to swiftly reach a peaceful solution for the Darfur conflict, as well as maintaining Sudanese territorial unity and safety, he said.

The committee is made up of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Libya, Algeria, Egypt and Qatar.
